Allen Meadows
François Lumpp, who began his career in 1977 without having inherited a domaine or vineyards, is an intense, quiet and clearly thoughtful vigneron. He describes 2013 as a `vintage where I am happy with the results but it was an incredibly difficult growing season. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I am surprised by the quality of the wines given how challenging conditions were. The flowering was troubled and thus yields were limited as I realized only about 35 hl/ha on the red side which isn`t much in the Côte Chalonnaise. I began the harvest on the 28th of September and brought in reasonably clean and ripe fruit that required some sorting but nothing major. Potential alcohols were adequate as they ranged between 11.8 and 12.5%. Perhaps the best attribute of the wines is their freshness which when coupled with good vibrancy will make them a pleasure to drink, which after all is the goal`. 89-91 points
