One of the more reticent wines in the range, the 2011 Barolo Monvigliero is also one of the most promising. Understatement and nuance are the calling cards in a Barolo that captures a highly appealing interplay between the unique personality of this Verduno site and the trademark Scavino textural richness. Bright beams of supporting acidity and minerality give the Monvigliero much of its energy and drive. The Monvigliero has firmed up quite a bit since bottling and I expect it will require at least a few years to fully come together. 93 points
