Sherry butt then PX HH
Balblair is up in the Northern Highlands, in the group of distilleries that cluster around the Dornoch Firth. It lays claims to be one of Scotland`s oldest distilleries. A Balblair distillery was built in 1790, but that was demolished, and a new one went up in a new location in 1894; that`s the one that currently stands. It also closed during the First World War, and didn`t open again till after the Second. This bottling is salty and sweet, like salted caramel, with a slightly viscous, oily texture that takes water well. It`s a great example of a North Highland coastal malt. (NT 27/03/18)
