2008 Aultmore, AD Rattray 12 yo 63.5%

Aultmore is rarely bottled as a single malt, being prized by the blenders and especially Dewars for their White Label. It is a central Speyside malt which draws its water from the Auchinderran Burn. At first nosing, it is classic Speyside, with custard and cinnamon (crema catalana), crème brulee, cinder toffee, and Terry’s Chocolate Orange; there’s also just a whiff of smoke, of embers dying in the grate. This classic Speyside takes me right back to the leather armchair lounge of the Whisky Society lounge in Leith. Highly impressive, long and luxurious. (NT 01/04/21)
