1990 Strathclyde grain AD Rattray 26 yo 56.6%

Strathclyde distillery does not occupy a remote, picturesque highland glen, but the gritty (now urban regeneration) environs of the Glasgow Gorbals. No matter. We don`t see many grain whiskies on our shelves, and some may assume they are inferior to malt, but well made grain whiskies such as this, with a serious bit of age on them, can be remarkable drinks, often more akin to bourbon than conventional Scotch in character. This fits the mold - dark, rich, sweet, with a demerara, cinnamon and orange character. It`s almost more like a fine, aged rum. (NT 06/12/16)
