The Brunier family are the custodians of a number of famous estates in the Southern Rhône, most notably Vieux Télégraphe in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The family's history in the region began with Hippolyte Brunier in 1898, who maintained less than a hectare of vines on La Crau, a windswept plateau between Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Bédarrides, where a telegraph tower was set up in the late 1800s to transmit between Paris and Marseilles. Hippolyte expanded his holdings to 16 hectares. His grandson Henri oversaw further expansion and founded the Vieux Télégraphe label. He passed the estate on his his sons, Daniel and Frédéric, in 1988. They went on to create Télégramme in 2002 (when floods forced them to declassify Vieux Télégraphe), and expanded into other appellations (Gigondas and Ventoux) and other estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Clos Roquète, Piedlong). Since 2015 they passed most of the running of the estates on to the next generation, but they are both still heavily involved.
We will taste a wide range of wines from Gigondas to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a wonderful opportunity to taste some of the region's greatest wines, with Daniel Brunier's experience and wisdom to guide us. /JH
