Zinfandel is an unusual grape variety. Originating in Croatia, it is similar to (but clonally distinct from) the Primitivo grape found in Puglia, Italy. It tends to ripen inconsistently, one grape at a time, rather than the whole bunch, which forces a winemaker to either wait for the whole bunch to ripen, resulting in powerful, jammy wines with very high alcohol levels, or work incredibly hard in the winery to remove over- or under-ripe berries. The resulting wines, therefore, are incredibly diverse! We've a few examples in our range, join us this Thursday to taste them.
