Underrepresented, often underappreciated, lacking the fame of Cabernet or the mythos of Pinot - it's easy to forget that Nebbiolo is one of the finest, most beautiful red wine grapes around. Its relative absence from the international scene makes it possible to give a wonderfully complete survey of its quality and diversity by focusing on the great appellations of Piedmont in northern Italy. Barolo is the greatest and most revered of all: at its best, it perfectly expresses the balance of power and grace that is Nebbiolo's special talent, with haunting aromatics framed by serious structure.
We'll be tasting everything from Langhe to Gattinara, from Bramaterra to Barbaresco, culminating in a deep dive into some iconic Barolos from each commune. Legendary producers will be represented: Mascarello, Roagna, Voerzio, Sandrone, to name a few. Decanters will be filled and aired; no cheeks or gums shall be safe from tannin.
