The Winery at Hundred Hills was founded after a three year search for the perfect spot - steep chalky slopes which balanced ideal exposition with protection from the elements. Stephen and Fiona knew they'd found something special in the Stonor Valley in Oxfordshire when the response to a soil sample they'd sent came back from the lab in Champagne: 'where specifically in the Cote de Blancs is this from?'. They planted low-yielding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay clones, each carefully selected for the different parcels on the farm. Their first vintage was in 2016, and they have gone from strength to strength since. The wines are elegant and gastronomic, and a regular sight in Michelin-starred restaurants across the UK.
We're very pleased to be joined by Rupert Crick, the Hospitality Manager at Hundred Hills (and previously a sommelier at Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons), on Wednesday 6 December. He'll guide us through a tasting of the range, including their rarely-shown Illustration No 1 and their 2019 Blanc de Noirs, which is one of Jancis Robinson's highest-rated English sparkling wines.
