Gusbourne Estate: cool climate - top fizz
A Kent estate, though with vineyards in East Sussex as well, Gusbourne owns all its land and grows all the fruit for its wines, thus retaining complete control over vineyard practices and operations. Planting began in 2004 and from the start low yielding Burgundian, rather than super productive Champagne clones were selected. Viticulture is sustainable and low input, whilst the handling of fruit and wine in the cellar is minimal. The sparkling wines are characterful and reflect the terroir well.
Kentish Pinot Noir - once just a dream on an internet discussion board - is now a reality; and a quality one at that. As the best English still red wine we've tasted we are proud to present it alongside other Pinots from around the world.
We are delighted to welcome Laura Rhys MS, who some of you will know from La Trompette, to host the lunchtime session of our tasting on her first visit here. /CW
