Château Longueville au Baron de Pichon-Longueville has a history that began in the sixteenth century, though it was the nineteenth that saw the property develop towards its present shape when the original estate was finally split in to 'Baron' and 'Comtesse' in 1860. However, year zero for many Pichon Baron aficionados is 2000, when Christian Seely and his bowtie appeared on the scene to continue the improvements begun by Jean-Michel Cazes and take the château to new heights. Owners Axa Mille´simes have always treated the property as a long-term investment and their stewardship and inspired recruitment decisions are bearing great fruit. We are going to taste a range of recent and mature vintages which amply demonstrate the overall progress here as well as vintage characteristics.
To take you through the wines we are delighted to welcome Corinne Michot to Uncorked. She is a multi-talented and lively woman whose speed of thought and ability to put across ideas are only matched by her lively personality and range of interests. Upon her return from a year in Asia, Christian Seely created the job of Brand Ambassador at Axa Millésimes for her. Before that Corinne was one of the UK's most respected and lauded sommeliers, having been talent-spotted by (2010 winner of World's Best Sommelier) Gerard Basset at the beginning of her career.
The vintages on show are 1996, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2010 Pichon Baron and 2012 Griffons de Pichon Baron. /CW
