Rezabal

Txakoli (pronounced cha-co-lee) is an Atlantic-influenced style of (usually white) wine produced in the Spanish Basque Country. With cool summers and high annual rainfall, this can be challenging region to cultivate grapes, and what works best is often a light, spritzy, low alcohol style – and that’s Txakoli. Rezabal is a third generation winery in the eastern Getariako Txakolina DO that stretches to the French border. Miraya and Ander were both folk singers in the Basque tradition in their youth, but their family history was in wine, and they soon decided that was where their future lay as well. They now have some 20 hectares of high-trained vines on the green, humid coastal outskirts of the town of Zarautz. Their classic Txakoli is made from 100% Hondarribi Zuri, the most important indigenous grape of the region. It has an exuberant lemony punch and hallmark bracing acidity – this is classic, coastal Txakoli. (NT 29/07/25)
