Kilikanoon
`This is one of the most brilliantly run wineries in Australia, and the quality of the entire portfolio is impressive thanks to the enviable talents of winemaker Kevin Mitchell... also one of South Australia`s `good guys.` - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, October 2005 `Kilikanoon produces some of the world`s finest value-priced, full-flavored, dry reds` - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, October 2006 This brilliantly run winery in Australia owes its bevy of extraordinary wines made from Shiraz or Shiraz/Grenache blends, as well as an assortment of Cabernets and Rieslings, to good guy/winemaker Kevin Mitchell. He comes across, as they say in Australia, as a `good mate,` but the guy is deadly serious when it comes to the quality of the wines at Kilikanoon. He`s been aided by a remarkable succession of top quality vintages from 2001 to 2005. (RMP)WA 2005 There`s not much in the way of medals and trophies that Kilikanoon and Kevin Mitchell haven`t won since they burst onto the scene. Founded by Kevin, fresh out of Roseworthy, in 1997 they swept the boards with their 02 vintage and haven`t really looked back. With fewer than 10 vintages under their belt they have garnered critical acclaim, not only from the fiercely parochial South Aussies, but pretty much universally. The 2003 Oracle garnered 98 points from Parker, and although they rarely see eye to eye, James Halliday`s 2007 Wine Companion rates Kilikanoon as 5 stars, its highest accolade.`Outstanding winery capable of producing wines of the highest calibre.` That puts it in the distinguished company of another Uncorked favourite. Giaconda. Given that prices have remained static for the past 4 vintages, and in some cases gone down (what`s that all about !!??), this must surely represent one of the bargains of the vinous world. So impressed is Kevin with the quality of his wines, that we couldn`t even tempt him to give us a quote extolling the virtues of the fabulous 04s. This is a guy who is not just quietly, but silently, confident in his work.
