In 1946 the Steytler family purchased a farm in the Bottelary region of Stellenbosch. They planted a wide variety of different grape varieties over 162 hectares, specialising in Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc and Pinotage. Today they are the proud owers of the second-oldest Chenin Blanc vineyard in South Africa. The current (fourth) generation is Danie Steytler Jnr. An avid rugby player, he made his first barrel of wine at the age of 12, and after graduating from Stellenbosch University, worked for 5 years in wineries across the world, from Stag`s Leap in Napa to Chateau de Negly in Languedoc. He returned to the family estate in 2009. (JH 23/06/2023)
