Domaine Jones

It was when Katie Jones was working for a large English midlands wine merchant that she first encountered the Languedoc, especially Fitou and particularly Paziols and became smitten by the area. In the late nineties she moved there to work for the then dynamic co-op. Eventually she was moved to buy some ancient vines on rugged, hard-to-work land that was excellent terroir and has gradually accumulated 12 hectares of difficult but immensely rewarding black slate vineyards with old vines scattered around Maury, Tuchan and Paziols.

Her very hard work paid off and in 2011, when Robert Parker visited her Domaine and awarded his imprimatur she was on the way to acceptance. This hasn’t always included her neighbours, unfortunately. There has been jealousy and vandalism and her struggles to win the hearts and minds of all her fellow villagers have been as tough as her labour in the vineyards. But her determination and skills as a wine grower are evident in the range of intense and characterful wines we’re delighted to offer. (CW 10/09/18)
