When we visit Bordeaux, we see Sydonios glasses again and again in tasting rooms and on dinner tables. They're now in use at over half the 1855 cru classé estates. We liked them ourselves so much we've imported them, and we've quickly found our favourite: the Esthète. It's fine, it's light, and it's got a classically rounded bowl shape. It seems as comfortable with a hearty red as it does a crisp white. It fits very nicely in my hand and, unlike some overgenerous glasses, it doesn't take up too much space on a crowded table.

Sydonios is the brainchild of one Antoine Schvartz, a native of Reims who'd been working in Bordeaux. Antoine had to do a lot of tasting in his job, but he'd never been quite satisfied with the glassware on offer. He was bothered by the duopoly Riedel and Zalto had over Bordeaux tasting rooms. The idea of creating his own glass nagged at him. Eventually, he gave in. It's been a big success, and the glasses look lovely.
