A blender's masterpiece
Krug Grande Cuvee is always something of a blender's masterpiece. The newly-released Krug Grande Cuvee Edition 166 is based around the 2010 vintage, but it is made up of 140 wines from no fewer than 10 vintages; compare that to the mere 3 or so vintages that go into most non-vintage Champagnes. This goes far beyond the needs of merely seeking a house style or compensating for any irregularities in the base vintage. It goes some way to explaining the complexity, the fullness of the aromas, the depth of flavour. /NT
