On tasting tomorrow, with Ken and Akiko Freeman
Tomorrow is the American holiday of Thanksgiving. What better way to celebrate than by tasting some great Californian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay? It is a great pleasure to be welcoming Ken and Akiko Freeman back to Uncorked. We have been following their cool climate Sonoma Coast wines since the early 2000s, and have been their exclusive UK agent since the 2006 vintage. Over that time we have watched their wines get even better. We've even persuaded Akiko (against the American norm) to start boxing their wine in cases of six for us!
Ken and Akiko have always believed that from the right sites, California can produce wines as complex and compelling as those of Burgundy. They built their early success on close relationships with some of the best growers up and down the Sonoma Coast. They were also busy planting their own vineyards, which are now in their prime. The home vineyard Gloria is a steep hillside site that tends to make a more voluptuous wine; Yu-ki is a cooler, coastal vineyard where the tiny Pinot grapes produce a darker, more savoury juice. Akiko's Cuvee is a barrel selection, blended from the top barrels across the range.
Ken and Akiko will be in the shop tomorrow from 12-2pm, and then again from 5-6pm. The wines will be open and on free tasting all day. Everyone is welcome!
