It started with a reference in the novel Diamonds are Forever. Then, Champagne Bollinger made the first of many Bond film appearances in 1979, in Moonraker. Now, in celebration of no less than 45 years of official association between Bollinger and James Bond, Bollinger is releasing its flagship Special Cuvée in a limited-edition James Bond collector's box.

Outstanding in its field, Bollinger Special Cuvée is one of the great Grande Marque non-vintage Champagnes. It is Pinot Noir-driven, and roughly a fifth of the base wine is vinified in oak. Unusually, the reserve wines that go into Special Cuvée are stored in magnum, which allows them to develop whilst at the same time guarding against oxidation. There are some 600,000 of them lying in Bollinger's labyrinthine cellars (which would be a great setting for a Bond film, incidentally). The final assemblage of Special Cuvée is a blend of three vintages plus five percent of the reserve wines from magnum.
