A Burgundian approach to Kiwi Chardonnay

'These wines really should be on the radar of any value-conscious white burgundy lover.' - Jancis Robinson

'The taste you should experience with my Chardonnay is light, elegant, and flinty. It will not be a big, bold, buttery oak bash. In the European tradition, I've designed my wines to be enjoyed at the table and to be accompanied with food of your choice.' Michael Brajkovich, head winemaker at Kumeu River, is committed to an elegant, Burgundian model for his wines, and he has succeeded in spades; Kumeu River wines have won a legion of accolades, Burgundian comparisons and blind tasting victories over recent years.

The 2017 vintage for Kumeu was not typical with a cool summer and strong winds which led to the soil drying out and causing water stress to the vines, which actually helped the ripening process. Thankfully they managed to finish the harvest in March just before two cyclones hit in April and the handpicked fruit that came into the winery was in superb condition.

Since we've stocked Kumeu River we have watched the wines grow in popularity. Despite the international praise now heaped upon them, they remain extremely affordable for wines of such quality. /JW
