Precise and expansive - a legend in the making

2015 in Germany is already a vintage of legend, but one with a happy ending so we've avoided Wagnerian Sturm & Drang. And fortunately in this case, since Dönnhoff is on the Nahe no outlandish Rhinemaidens. Stunning wines is all we have to offer you.

Back in the spring, when I tasted these wines early in the morning and almost on my own, my sense of wonder grew with each sample. I could not believe that everything I tasted was such a hit. The four things that were consistent impressions for every wine were purity and intensity; balance and terroir. For each vineyard has produced distinct wines reflecting its origins. At the same time these wines are emphatically Riesling.

Cornelius Dönnhoff stood in a corner with his coffee checking his emails. He seemed almost as much in awe of his wines as I was. Like his Dad Helmut he is a thoughtful and generous and hugely skilled winegrower. With this vintage he has produced a masterwork as great (and almost as long lasting) as anything with a Valkyrie. /CW
