2015 Bordeaux round-up

28 Jun 2016

St Emilion seen from Pavie MacquinOverlooked, undersold, a size to suit you

It feels as though, like some other campaigns, Bordeaux 2015 has slightly outstayed its welcome. It has now come to a close and we find ourselves singing a familiar, if exaggerated, refrain. Everything we hoped for in quality, the year was also everything we have come to expect from recent en primeur campaigns writ large. The usual suspects waited to trump their neighbours' pricing… and failed to sell. Equally, properties we have long admired for a consistency in pricing and quality held the line and sold like hot cakes. The Bordelais also continued their love affair with sporadic releases. Long gaps followed by sudden flurries have once again left many customers (and the trade) infuriated and excellent wines overlooked. Business as usual then, for good and for bad. With no need to buy the latter category we hope we can point you towards the wines that deserved to sell and find a place in your cellar.

2015 produced some remarkable wines at all levels and below is a round-up of what we have left. This covers the great values of the vintage like the excellent Chateau Deyrem Valentin from Margaux, the vintage's most consistent commune. We still have stocks of the properties we have strong historical ties to like Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Domaine de Chevalier plus there are tiny amounts of some of the stars of the vintage. You might even bag yourself a first growth. It is also worth noting it is not too late to specify halves or magnums for a small surcharge. /EE
