2013 Burgundy: Chambolle-Musigny

14 Jan 2015

Charles van Canneyt of Hudelot-Noellat

The fount of refinement

Chambolle-Musigny is the Puligny of the north: it's hugely famous, everyone wants it, yet there aren't that many producers that are actually based there. 2013 was, as we tasted, a successful year for Chambolle. Regular buyers have rightly plundered some of our producers' stocks already; this isn't a vintage to miss and you definitely don't want to lose your place.

If you aren't on the previous purchasers list for our better known vignerons, then the best thing is to go spotting for the stars of the future. Our next two producers are high up on this list and make a grand opportunity to get on the Chambolle ladder. Gilbert et Christine Felettig is a brilliant example of a domaine which has transformed practices in both vineyards and winery over the past few years and whose knowledge of, and ability to exploit their Chambolle terroirs makes them superstars of the very near future. Anne et Herve Sigaut are long established, taking over the domaine in 1990, but with adoption of organic - quasi-biodynamic practices in the last few years the domaine has been transformed. If you haven't already, this is the time to start following the Felettigs and the Sigauts.

Hudelot-Noellat have been an established, starry domaine for years now and are based in Vougeot, but their wines are so fine and delicate that they could almost be Chambolle natives. Charles van Canneyt played a blinder in 2013 and his wines are totally true to their various terroirs. /CW
