Tuscan warmth: delicious Brunello at its fresh best

'Beautifully etched, focused and sharp, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the best wines released this vintage in Montalcino. This is a spectacular effort that underlines the high quality of fruit that was obtained in this challenging vintage. Wild berry, cola and balsam herb aromas are followed by drying mineral tones that are elegant and graceful. The effect lingers long on the palate. Given its genuine and streamlined texture, the wine promises to flesh out further as it completes its long evolution. If you are in the market for 2011 Brunello, I highly recommend Le Potazzine Gorelli. 96 points' - Monica Larner, robertparker.com

Le Potazzine's two distinctively different vineyards make a Brunello that is both delicate and perfumed yet with structure and weight. When Giuseppe and Gigliola bought the two vineyards they wanted to make the best expression of Montalcino's hill and the differing altitudes and soils represent the finest expression. Giuseppe is a super winemaker whose use of lengthy maceration times and of large casks allows the Sangiovese to show at its absolute best. The altitude of the vineyard has allowed them to make a winning 2011 that does not show any evidence of the August warmth. The 2011 Brunello is a wine that will be extremely enjoyable pretty much from now through 2025, so it will be a wine to enjoy while you wait for your 2010s to come round. /CW
