2010 Renieri Brunello di Montalcino

The one that almost got away

'Marco Bacci has released some of the finest wines ever made from his Montalcino property, Renieri. This Tuscan all-rounder (with properties in Chianti Classico and coastal Tuscany) demonstrates a profound understanding and ability to express the greatness of Sangiovese in the 2010 vintage.' - Monica Larner, eRobertParker.com

When we began offering 2010 Brunello, such was the competition for Renieri that we found ourselves unable to secure an allocation. We had to console ourselves with only offering the Renieri Riserva, which some of you wisely bought. So what is the pull that makes Renieri so sought after? First of all, Sangiovese star Marco Bacci. After bringing Castello di Bossi to the very top ranks of Chianti, he chose to develop other classic expressions of Sangiovese, in the Maremma and in Montalcino. At Renieri, he renovated the vineyards and the cellar a decade ago, and those renovations are now bearing fruit, both in quality and in critical accolades. And then of course there was the 2010 Brunello vintage, widely regarded as as near to perfect as possible. We were understandably frustrated to miss out on Renieri.

All`s well that ends well? The happy ending to this story is that a little later in the day than usual we have received an allocation of the 2010 Renieri Brunello - so now's your chance. /NT

'Renieri`s 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of infinite depth and personality. It makes a huge impact on the senses thanks to the power of its extract and the boldness of its aromas. This is no small Brunellino. It`s a wine of huge aspirations and horizons that will appeal to those who appreciate the extra meat and padding on display. Its overtly generous personality delivers tones of black fruit, shaved truffle, wet earth, prune, candied fruit, cigar box and wet tobacco. On the palate, it shows an irresistible sense of density and softness. This excellent wine can be consumed now or in ten years. 95 points' - Monica Larner, eRobertParker.com, February 2015
