Jane Anson
Light incense and grilled sandalwood toast, this is carefully handling the vintage, giving a gourmet twist with softly spoken grilled caramel alongside raspberry fruits. Harvest 25 September to 10 October. 40% new oak, Jean-Antoine Nony owner, Derenoncourt Consultant as of this vintage. An estate with historically high toast on the barrels, they are actively reducing that, and putting a portion in 5,000l oak casks. 90 points

The 2024 Grand Mayne is an elegant, understated Saint-Emilion. Proprietor Jean-Antoine Nony has dialed back the style quite a bit, something that is accented in 2024. A healthy dollop of Cabernet Franc lends notable aromatic presence. Cedar, sweet pipe tobacco and espresso meld into a core of bright red-toned fruit. It will be interesting to see how things develop here. Tasted two times. 91-93 points

The 2024 Grand Mayne has a pleasant bouquet, with blackberry, raspberry, pressed violet and crushed stone aromas opening nicely in the glass. It is lovely! The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a bit more flesh compared to its peers. This is quite linear in style and shorter than the best vintages, yet clearly thoughtfully and assiduously crafted with a bright, more-ish finish. 91-93 points
