Cru Beaujolais at its best. Morgon Cote de Py is the finest part of the Morgon cru, with the iron-rich decomposed granite soils forming one of the best terroirs in the region. At Domaine de la Chaponne, the dedication that Laurent and Florence Guillet put in to looking after their average 60-year-old vines here is outstanding. A lovely wine with cherry-ish fruit, soft tannins, and a slightly savoury undertow. There’s a gentle bite of acidity on the finish. It seems subtle at first, but this is authentic, terroir Beaujolais. (NT 24/09/24)
