Tamlyn Currin

Full bottle1,346 g. Screwcap. 100% Shiraz, planted in 1973 and bought by Yarra Yering in 1989. They don’t know what the clone is, but it’s unusual. 50% of the Shiraz was fermented in a big oak cask, some whole-bunch and some whole-berry fermentation (together). The other half of the grapes went into their square, wooden tea-chest fermenters. 50% was aged in cask, 50% in 500-litre puncheons.
The aroma coming out of this glass is knee-bucklingly good! Dark crimson, shiny, ravishingly ripe fruit, conched acidity spiralling through and pulling the sweetness and intensity and concentration up and up and up through glossy, tonewood tannins. Cigar and mocha. Daringly ravishing and vividly fresh. All curves and stunningly smooth lines, like running your fingers the length and breadth of a luthier-made cello. 17.5 points
