2019 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf Blanc
Secondary Description

Jump in quality and impact is apparent here with more immediate stonefruit nose. On the palate everything is more fruit-coated, there is more extraction and a touch of tannin but fine acidity too. It has good texture, tastes ripe and accessible but elegant. It is long on the finish with herbs and creamy peach and pear. (CW 12/11/20)

bright, fine yellow robe; the bouquet is lying in wait, not yet delivering its bounty, is innately rich and nicely oily, speaks of the garrigue, gorse flowers, lemon notes, infused herbal tea such as camomile. The palate bears accomplished richness, has a savoury fullness, and rolls along with good sureness and consistency. It’s an STGT Châteauneuf blanc, has the depth of its place, with local nuances within – its Clairette-Grenache blanc foundation the two pillars of its authenticity. The richness lasts, with a peach-floral, fennel note on the second half. Its balance will allow a fruitful longevity. There is some creamy oak present. If you drink it now, you will only be lightly tapping at its door, so wait! 13.5°. 4.5*

One of my favorite whites from the south of France is Daniel Brunier`s Châteaneuf du Pape Blanc and his 2019 is another stunning effort. Always a blend of Clairette, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Bourboulenc brought up in foudre, this beauty boasts and exotic nose of honeyed peach, quince, crushed citrus, and salty minerality, all with a floral edge. Medium to full-bodied on the palate with flawless balance and beautifully integrate acidity, enjoy this concentrated white anytime over the coming 15-20 years. 95 points
