From 35-year-old vines on gray marls and gypsum soils, the apricot-colored 2018 Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal Vendange Tardive opens with an intense yet clear, refined and elegant bouquet with mandarin and orange peel as well as fruity and some oaky flavors that are dominated by citrus fruits and a certain flintiness. Round and elegant on the palate, this is a complex and precise, not overly sweet but saline and tensioned Pinot with fine tannin grip, delicate bitters and moderate sweetness that doesn`t really taste sweet but is round and charming. This is a very elegant and also stimulating VT from the steep Jebsal cru that once more proves that it is predestinated for Pinot Gris. It was bottled much earlier than other 2018s of the domaine in August 2019 with 13.5% alcohol plus an analytical 79 grams per liter of residual sugar, which you don`t taste. It has a stunningly high pH of 3.7 but is nevertheless vivacious and stimulating. Natural cork. 93+ points
