Jasper Morris MW

Fine, plump mid-purple colour. The bouquet is balanced and attractive, does not show over-ripeness. Deep full raspberry, a few peach notes, the oak showing up in the background but only in balance with the oak as the fruit surges through at the back. Excellent finish. Predominantly red fruit. 92-95 points

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d`Orveau 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of red cherry, cranberry and crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very good acidity and a gorgeous, silky-smooth finish infused with impressive mineralité. An excellent Chambolle-Musigny from Romain Taupenot. 92-94 points

The 2018 Combe d’Orveau is a big step up from the villages level botltings chez Taupenot. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a ripe, but pure and precise blend of red and black cherries, woodsmoke, pigeon, fresh thyme, a lovely and complex base of soil and a bit of spicy oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very nicely balanced, with a sappy core, good soil signature and a long, ripely tannic finish. This just needs some time in the cellar to blossom. Drink 2028-2065. 92 points

A very spicy and attractively floral-suffused nose flashes notes of both red and dark currant along with a hint of Asian-style tea. The more sophisticated and elegant flavors possess fine richness along with a bracing salinity on the serious, very firm and mildly warm finish. This built-to-age effort should reward extended cellaring yet drink well after 5 or so years. 89-92 points
