Planted in the 1960s, Preaux is just below Cloux – at the foot of the slope, there is more earth here. This gives a richer, rounder, more black fruited style of wine than Cloux, which has higher acidity. The 30% whole bunch used in this cuvee does come across in the smooth, soft tannins and the slightly stemmy flavour profile (which will disappear over time). It’s the only cuvee in which the Jacquesons used any whole bunch fermentation, and they have used it as an experiment which they thought might suit the ripe nature of the vintage. It has worked.
