All the elegance of the Jacques Thienpont style is in evidence here. Their Castillon property doesn`t reach the heights of notoriety of Le Pin or L`If (Pomerol and Saint-Emilion respectively), but there is no less care and attention lavised on L`Hetre than on those considerably more pricey offerings. Dark, earth-touched fruit, a hint of wood-spice and a rounded, ripe structure on this 2018, gorgeously refined, and very easy to enjoy. (JH 28/04/22)

Initially a little reserved, the nose opens to plum and red fruit notes with a hint of oak. There’s a touch of sweetness on the palate, the fruit just reining back from overripeness, a freshness from the chalky limestone soils lending balance. The tannins are powerful, the finish firm and chewy. 89 points
