2018 Jean-Paul Droin Chablis Grand Cru Valmur

The 2018 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru may well be the finest offering from Droin this vintage. Granted, it does take 30-40 minutes to get motoring, but the aromatics eventually offer wonderful, incisive scents of lemon zest, mirabelle and touches of crushed stone. There is superb focus and precision. The palate is underpinned by a fine line of acidity that you might attribute to a much cooler summer. Vibrant and energetic, this Valmur fans out toward the finish and maintains superb mineralité right to the end. Top class. 94 points
