Jasper Morris MW

A new rental arrangement. This is a big boy weighing in at 15% alcohol but with pH of 3.42 which is comparatively low and so helps the balance. Gilbert preferred not to use any whole bunches at this level of ripeness. Dense black purple, very reduced. Explosively rich and ripe yet with this fierce acidity behind. Black fruit but not too dense, nor cooked. Hard to say where this will go, could be very exciting. 91-94 points

The maiden 2018 Corton Les Grandes Lolières Grand Cru includes no whole-bunch fruit and is matured in 100% new oak. It has an intense bouquet of black currant and red currant infused with wilted rose petals and violets. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and the oak feels nicely enmeshed toward the fleshy, confit-like finish, which is quite hedonistic, partly due to 14.8% alcohol. 91-93 points
