This comes from lots of small plots representing half of their three hectares. The same dense purple colour and somewhat backward nose as the Marsannay. This is properly classy on the palate though, dark fruit which has retained freshness, a nice spike of acidity at the back, and good length. 90-92 points

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes had been racked four days prior to my visit. Completely de-stemmed, it has a precise bouquet that is slightly austere at first and needs a little more cohesion. The palate is medium-bodied with a pinch of black pepper on the entry, fine balance and crunchy black fruit on the slightly short but fresh finish. Fine. 88-90 points

Classic, attractively delicate Chambolle nose, soft and delicately spiced. There is nice depth of fruit and finely tuned tannins. A clean and precise finish. 16.5 points
