2018 Berthaut-Gerbet Fixin

A blend of fruit from 4 small vineyards vinified together in concrete, with no stems and no new oak. A vivid mix of red and black fruit, raspberry and bramble, with a surprisingly soft, silky texture. (NT 09/01/20)

Jasper Morris MW

From 4 plots around the cuverie, assembled in large wooden vats since September to be bottled in December. Fine vibrant purple, drier tannins here, but covered in this liquid raspberry fruit, juicily delicious red and black raspberry at the finish. Chalky tannins. 87-89 points

The 2018 Fixin Village was blended and tasted from foudre. It has a pretty bouquet of red cherry and bergamot tea, nicely defined and lifted. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins, good acidity and a fresh, quite saline finish. Drink over the next three to five years. 86-88 points

Here too there is good freshness to the equally ripe aromas of poached plum, cassis and a whiff of the sauvage. The rich, concentrated and unusually full-bodied flavors possess a succulent, indeed even velvety, mid-palate that contrasts somewhat with the rustic and warm finale. This could easily be enjoyed young. 86-89 points

Subtle, peppery dark-red fruit. Firm, finely chewy, nicely dry. Honest and harmonious. Lightish on the mid palate but good length. Not particularly intense. Persistent, savoury finish. 16 points
