2018 Bernard Moreau St-Aubin Sur Gamay
Secondary Description
1er cru
Sur Gamay, or above the village of Gamay; this cuvee used to be labelled after its lieu-dit Sous le Roche Dumay, which is the very highest spot of the Sur Gamay vineyard. A bouquet full of lime and blossom. Finely textured, in a stony, saline, mineral style. The 15% new oak is very discreetly woven in. Moreau buy in the grapes here; while Alex Moreau declines to say who from, he emphasizes that it’s a ‘good guy’ who also makes fine wine on his own behalf. It’s a lovely bottling, full of depth of character (NT 08/01/20)

Offering up aromas of pear, white currants, spring blossom and fresh pastry, the 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur Gamay is medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, with lively acids and a pretty core of perfumed fruit. Bottled before harvest, this will drink well young. 89 points

A touch of oak cedar and sweetness on the nose but it’s subtle. Rich, creamy and generous, broad and fills the mouth but fresh too. Straightforward, balanced, not terribly long but more spicy and leesy/oaky than the Bourgogne. 16 points
