Monvigliero in the Verduno township is quickly becoming one of the most celebrated and talked about crus in Barolo. The Fratelli Alessandria estate was among the first to understand its potential, and indeed, this wine was first released in 1978. Fast forward to today and you will find that the 2015 Barolo Monvigliero is an absolutely classic interpretation that stays faithful to past incarnations. The wine offers pretty berry aromas intermingled with spice, licorice and crushed stone. A floral aroma of red rose also appears. The tannins are solid and will require extra years of bottle aging. 96+ points

The 2015 Barolo Monvigliero is a wine of pure class, not to mention considerable potential. Bright floral notes and chiseled fruit make a strong first impression. There is a good bit of tannin lurking beneath, but the richness of the fruit gives the 2015 a decidedly gentle, inviting feel. 91-94 points

Pale-medium garnet. Primary, blackberry fruit intensity with nutty oak breadth and some spice tones. High, fine tannins in a classic Barolo style. Rich, blackberry and black-cherry palate fruit, with chocolate oak notes. Just a touch of warmth and in need of a bit more freshness, but pretty good stuff. 17 points
