Made from grapes grown on vines sourced from old Bolgheri peasant orchard crop from the hills behind modern Sassicaia, the Grattamacco Vermentino is a fascinating, artisanal wine. Picked late to ensure ripeness and contain what would otherwise be rampant acidity, the 2014 is intense and characterful. The attack is full of orange, with a waxy texture and a dry, pithy, citric finish. The best may be yet to come - these wines age magnificently. A Vermentino unlike any other. (NT 19/05/16)
