Hondarribi Zuri
Txakoli (pronounced. chako-lee) is a style of wine in the Spanish Basque Country. Its roots are in the Roman era, but it almost died out in the 19th century, not due to phylloxera (which mysteriously left many Txakoli vineyards untouched) but industrialization. However, the granting of DO status in the 1990s was part of a big revival in Txakoli`s popularity. Basques will tell you that it is the only thing to have with the local speciality of hake cheeks, but in fact this crisp dry white will go a treat with any white fish or shellfish. Citric flavours and a touch of bergamot. (NT 08/03/16)

The 2012 K5 Arguinano, pure Hondarrabi Zuri fermented in inox and matured in contact with the lees for at least six months, is from the warmest harvest the young winery has experienced so far, but somehow manages to keep the freshness and give the wine a strong mineral character. The palate is sharp, quite full, with volume added by the gas. It should age well. Drink now-2016. 89+ points
