2012 Freeman Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch

Vivid red. Pungent aromas of red berries, no-longer illegal herb, rhubarb and cola, with a smoky note in the background. Chewy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors expand and gain sweetness with air, with the cola and smoke notes repeating. Dusty tannins build slowly on the very long, fine-grained finish, which leaves a suave floral note behind. 91 points

As are all of its siblings, the 2012 Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch is unfiltered. It possesses a light ruby color and sweet notes of cherry pie, baking spices, plum and a whiff of background oak. Silky textured, hedonistic, lush and irresistible, it demonstrates wonderful tannin management, and is an open-knit, expansive, velvety Pinot that consumers will adore. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. 91 points

Really interesting Pinot Noir. Very rich style but also has bags of complexity and the structure for ageing. Drunk this on its own but despite its lushness, this has some lovely natural acidity to match to food. Personally would think of duck, either confit or roast. A great contrast against burgundy and kiwi versions.
