Chenin Blanc is the white grape mainstay of Saumur, but it is unusual to see old vines in the area. Domaine de Rocheville, though, do have a parcel of old vine Chenin, next to the medieval church in Parnay. It is these vines that have given us La Dame. The bouquet has all the melon and banana ripeness that Chenin can give, but the palate is almost entirely dry. Ripe, with a slightly chalky texture and a notably acidic finish, this is a classic food wine full of flavour. (NT 19/10/15)
