Podere Sante Marie
Marino Colleoni bought this wild and overgrown property in 1995. It took a couple of years to clear the land revealing a tiny vineyard. Marino replanted where necessary and since his first vintage in 2000 has run this jewel of an estate sympathetically as possible. The focus has been on improving biodiverstiy and reducing any chemical usage to an absolute minimum.
The vineyard is situtated high up on the northern flanks of Montalcino. This elevation and exposure gives a lifted, crunchy wine of great savour. Complex, meaty, earthy and mineral. Red fruits and fine tannins give way to a fragrant mid-weight Brunello with touches of herbs, tobacco and menthol. There is a huge amount to admire at this minature estate. (EE 31/03/2021)
