Allen Meadows
Vincent Dureuil told me that 2011 was "one of those vintages that was difficult both physically and psychologically. We were absolutely devastated by hail that was so severe that some of my wines had yields of 5 hl/ha. Can you imagine? We started picking on the 1st of September and I was running three different sorting tables with 12 people around them. It was necessary to sort so meticulously that we were averaging one barrel of wine per hour when we normally do eight! In essence we worked three times as hard for one-eighth as much result, which was frankly dispiriting. But it is what it is and even if there wasn`t going to be much wine, I was determined to make the best of it. And I am honestly extremely happy with the quality but there just isn`t much of it." My assessment is in agreement with that of Dureuil`s as he has fashioned some excellent wines in 2011. 89 points
