Robert Parker
The 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape is a 7,000-case blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and the rest Mourvedre, Cinsault, Muscardin and Vaccarese from 75-year-old vines. Like the other cuvees, the Grenache is kept in neutral stainless steel or concrete tanks, and the Syrah and Mourvedre are aged in demi-muids. It displays delicious fruit along with soft tannins, and a big, projected bouquet of crushed herbs, black cherry jam, incense and hints of underbrush and tobacco leaves. With good acidity as well as medium to full body, it should drink nicely for a decade or more. 89-91 points
