Glenrothes distillery was founded in the second half of the 19th century by a colourful collection of characters who blazed a trail through whisky history. While it`s a core part of the Cutty Sark blend, to judge by the quality and diversity of independent Glenrothes bottlings I`ve encountered over the years, they must also have a warehouse replete with star casks. This is rich and orangey, full of leather and spice, and mint humbugs. What Speyside is all about. (NT 5/12/19)
