2001 Ledaig, AD Rattray 18 yo 57.1% (Mull)
Secondary Description
Bourbon hogshead
There has ony ever been one (legal) distillery on the Isle of Mull, but it is a cross-dresser, appearing either as Tobermory (for unpeated bottlings) or, when peated, under its original name Ledaig. It`s pronounced `letchik`. The peat levels on this beautifully-aged malt are medium, so less full than you`d expect on a typical Islay malt. Instead it is full of generous stonefruit notes, balanced by savoury, saline notes of mature game, damp wetsuit and fiery chilli spice. A remarkable example of how well peated malts can age.
