Aux Chaignots is the only premier cru that Gouges work in the north of Nuits-St-Georges. The soil here is more alluvial than in Gouges’ other vineyards, with a layer of fine gravel that has been washed down the combe. Antoine Gouges notes that in a village with a reputation for muscular wines, Aux Chaignots is known for its finesse. Ripe and succulent red fruit meet a rush of salty acidity in this excellent expression of terroir. (NT 17/12/24)

The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru has a lifted, perfumed nose with redcurrant, wild strawberry and light sous-bois scents. It is far superior to the Les Chenes Carteaux. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, crisp red berry fruit laced with orange rind and a touch of black pepper. Harmonious on the finish, this is a competent Les Chaignots. 91 points

Bottled in July. A bright ruby purple. The bouquet has a fine ripeness to the fruit, less heady than Chaines Carteaux. From a bright fresh red fruit at the front of the palate to something a little richer and darker behind, along with a peppery finish. Fine length, this is accessible but should also age quite well. 93 points
