John Gilman
The lieu à dit of Au Bas de Combe lies on the northern side of Nuits St. Georges and was happily unaffected by the hail in July. The 2018 version from Monsieur van Canneyt is an excellent village wine, delivering a complex and very precise nose of plums, black cherries, raw cocoa, a fine base of soil, gamebird and smoky overtones. On the palate the wine is pure, full and vibrant, with a lovely core, fine-grained tannins and nicely transparent on the long, complex and very classy finish. The proximity to Vosne is quite evident in this wine this year. Drink 2028-2055. 90+ points
